This mix simplifies the process of making zalabia, providing a convenient way to enjoy this classic dessert at home. The resulting dumplings have a distinctive taste, golden colour, and crunchy texture. Zalabia is a popular treat across the Middle East and North Africa, often served with syrup or dusted with icing sugar. Preparation Instructions Ingredients Needed
  • Dry yeast sachet (included)
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 cup (200 ml) of warm water

Steps:

  1. Empty the packet into a deep bowl and add the dry yeast sachet along with 2 tablespoons of oil.
  2. Add 1 cup of warm water and knead the mixture into a dough. Cover the bowl and let it rest in a warm place for 30 minutes to ferment.
  3. Using a small wet spoon, portion the dough and deep fry until golden brown.
  4. To sweeten, drizzle cold syrup over the fried dumplings or dust them with powdered sugar. Garnish with coconut or nuts as desired.

Sherbet (Syrup) Preparation

  1. Dissolve 2 cups of sugar in 1 cup of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Add half a teaspoon of lemon juice and a hint of vanilla. Let it cool before use.

Chocolate-Dipped Zalabia

Ingredients:

  • Prepared zalabia
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • Crushed pistachios or hazelnuts (optional)

  1. Melt the dark chocolate with the coconut oil in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water.
  2. Dip each fried zalabia into the melted chocolate, coating half of each dumpling.
  3. Place them on a parchment-lined tray and sprinkle with crushed nuts.

Ingredients:

  • Prepared zalabia
  • 3 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Mix the caster sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  2. While the zalabia are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  3. Serve immediately for a warm, spiced treat.
